Dr. Manfred Meinike Palm Paradise Cabanas

Manfred started a guesthouse 4 km west of Tangalle on the beach 25 years ago, and it is a wonderful secluded place to stay. Built up on a gentle hillside, the cabanas and restaurant sustained only slight damage from the tsunami. Manfred has good connections with several German organizations that came to help after the destruction, and he used the Palm Paradise game area as a staging arena for relief goods for distribution to several villages. Manfred gave the MVRF volunteers an incredible place to rest after working. Great food! Amazing staff! I highly recommend this small out-of-the-way resort if you find your way to Sri Lanka.

Manfred gave a great interview which outlined the help given after the tsunami in my documentary. Here he leans against a medium-sized catamaran he replaced for the neighbor fishermen in Goyambokka Beach.

Here are a few of the small catamarans Manfred replaced; 15 in all for the fishermen in his area.

Early February, when I arrived, Manfred was giving relief goods to many villages and camps, here to the people in the Handloom Factory Camp in Tangalle from the trunk of his car.
