Sri Lanka
These are just a few glimpses of this lovely tropical island and beautiful
people.
A large golden Buddha statue at a temple just east of Matara, at the site of
the Lace Factory women in the documentary.
I shot plenty of damage photos, but really, they are all the same; broken boats
and flattened homes.  Most homes are made of brick, with cement facing; the
tsunami completely destroyed most of the homes near the beach.
Enina in front of her home; she lost her grandparents here to the tsunami,
because they could not run away.
Two men take a break at a lumber mill near Dickwella.  The owner
Wiswanathe sold us lumber for unfinished furniture and boat repair.
Boys fishing in the lagoon in a half a boat.  When you need to fish, you find a
way.
These young boys are in training to be monks at a temple near Kandy, the
ancient capitol of Sri Lanka.  They are quite serious, as this is a commitment
that lasts a lifetime.
A coconut beetle, or Mr. Beetle to strangers.  One large fellow, about 6
inches long, landed on the chest of a lady doctor at Palm Paradise Cabanas
one night.  Although it was not poisonous, and I did not think it bit her; the
lady lost her mind a few days later.
This is how the second story is completed for a house in Sri Lanka; with
many braces.
Rice harvesting
This monkey is called Rileva by the locals.
These are called Wandura, here near the post office in Tangalle.
Sunset over a marsh inland near Biliatta.
Sunrise at the Palm Paradise Cabanas
Traditional Wedding Attire, at the Botanical Gardens near Kandy.
Gate Guardian, one of two, at an ancient temple near Okampitiya.
Beautiful Lotus
A tapestry in a temple near Kandy.  Sri Lanka has hundreds of gorgeous
